Overview
With public distrust and dissatisfaction in government institutions at an all-time high, evidence-based policymaking can be a tool to rebuild the public's trust and confidence. Many officials within the government see the incredible opportunities for growth and innovation as policymakers, researchers, and the public demand evidence-based policy. Using data strategically means innovations in transparency, expanding access, deploying new technologies, and creating new partnerships with stakeholders domestically and abroad. The conversation in this virtual discussion focused on how two federal government agencies, the U.S. National Center for Health Statistics and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, are helping to connect evidence to policy, using data to build safer, healthier communities.
The webinar explored how government agencies are modernizing their uses of data to address specific policy questions about ways to improve health and well-being. What actions are being taken to address challenges in using data to build evidence, including maintaining privacy and confidentiality? And how agencies’ strategies support equity and inclusion in their uses of data.
