What's a Digital Identity, and Do We Need One in America?

Overview

How do we prove who we are? The identity process in America is decentralized and left primarily to the state government. There is currently no national standard for verifying identity, and the verification methods that do exist, such as the state-issued driver’s license, fail to capture eleven percent of Americans. And, now, as we expect to be able to access key government services digitally, the challenges of identity verification become even more difficult. Government entities are uniquely positioned to develop and deliver a national standard for digital identity that can address the current challenges and support a more inclusive, effective identity process. This webinar discussed what a safe, effective, and inclusive digital identity should look like, and how it can serve the public.
